Ashley Merrill – Auto Accident, Wrongful Death

Imagine you, your husband, and your 10 year old son heading out for a summer evening motorcycle ride. You ride through your neighborhood when a distracted driver whizzes dangerously past you. She’s talking on her cell phone and flips her cigarette out the window. She clearly unaware of you and the danger she is to your family.

Your husband pulls up alongside the driver with the intention of letting the distracted driver know what she’s doing. But she continues her phone conversation and, out of frustration, swerves towards the motorcycle carrying your husband and son. She clips the front wheel of your husband’s bike causing it to crash.

Your husband dies in your arms. Your son is severely injured and taken to the ER.

The reckless driver’s insurance company honors their obligations. Your insurance company does not. They claim that your husband was responsible for his death AND your son’s injuries.

When your own insurance company refuses to pay what it owes, you’re left alone and unprotected.

How can a company refuse to honor its own contracts? They think they can get away with it because they’re big and you’re just “a little guy”.

Our communities are good places to live because we play by the rules and honor our obligations. We need to make sure big insurance companies do the same.
