MR. MITCH JENSEN: Our clients come to us and they apologize that they're not litigious, and they don't want to take advantage of people. And they're reluctant to hire an attorney because the public perception out there is if you're injured and you sue, you're trying to take advantage of something. And so they're very apologetic about it. And I don't understand where that comes from, other than years of propaganda from insurance companies to make us feel guilty for using the legal system when they've refused to pay and be accountable for the damages done by the people they ensure.

All of us buy insurance, but very few of our clients, or very few of the people that I talk to break it down and think about why do I have insurance. Well, first of all, you purchase insurance to protect yourself and your family. And second of all to protect others that you may have injured by being negligent. The more accountable you feel to make sure that they're taken care of, and that's why you buy insurance.

Unfortunately, insurance companies, by contract, have the power to step in between the responsible party and the victim. Well, their way isn't to come in and apologize for the damage done, and to figure out what it's going to take to restore the person that's injured to the position they were in before; rather, their way is to find weaknesses in the individual or their case, and to attack those weaknesses, and to frustrate the system so that they can minimize that person's claim.
