NED SIEGFRIED: I think when you, as far as selecting the right attorney, or an appropriate attorney to handle your case, there are certainly some things you can do. You can-- can and certainly should ask very pointed, specific questions of that attorney, to try to ascertain his or her level of competency, his or her level of experience and knowledge of the area that your case is involved in. When hiring an attorney, particularly on a bigger, more complex case, you need to be able to, you should ask the attorney what his or her experience is regarding those types of cases. Ask the attorney how often he or she or her law firm goes to court, how often they try these types of cases. Ask them about their reputation with the defense bar. Ask them whether or not they are going to handle your case or if they're going to involve another law firm.
Quite often, attorneys will get you to sign a fee agreement, and then quickly flip the case to another law firm that you had no under-- no awareness of, so you're merely just being referred out.
