Delta, UT – Hit and Run Sends Utah Police on High-Speed Chase, Ends in CrashUtah Legal News
Delta, UT (March 17, 2019) – Shortly before 7:00 AM, a Utah Highway Patrol officer responded to a call for a hit-and-run accident at State Route 6 and State Route 36 South, just west of Eureka.
The officer, who had been told to be on the lookout for a black 2016 Ford Explorer, spotted the suspect’s car when it flew past him headed westbound on State Route 6. The officer pursued the suspect, who was driving at speeds of over 100 MPH and causing other motorists to choose the lesser of two evils by swerving and veering off the roadway into a ditch in order to avoid a high-speed, head-on collision. The chase finally ended when the suspect himself wound up in a ditch near 400 South and 700 East.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Christian Donal Harmon, who has stolen the SUV from a local body shop. He was taken to Juab County Jail and booked on several charges.
Collateral Damage From Police Pursuits in Delta
The danger of car accidents grows substantially when drivers decide to speed. When law enforcement is involved in a high-speed chase on public roadways the likelihood of an accident increases greatly for the police officer, the suspect, and anyone else on the road. A suspect who is purposefully eluding police capture might even intentionally cause an accident or property damage in an attempt to slow the police down and make a getaway.
