Emery Co, UT – Fiery Crash Leads to Death of Biker on Route 6Utah Legal News
Emery County, Utah (May 17, 2019) – A tragic accident took place on Thursday, May 16th that affected westbound and eastbound traffic for nearly four hours. The incident is reported to have occurred at about 10:45 at night.
Officers from the Utah Highway Patrol and other emergency responders arrived at the scene of an accident that involved a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer both engulfed in flames on U.S. Route 6, just northeast of Green River.
According to initial reports, a motorcyclist headed eastbound drifted over the center line and directly into oncoming traffic, for reasons that have yet to be determined. The motorcycle ended up directly in the path of a westbound tractor-trailer on the same stretch of road. The two vehicles collided, starting a fire right there in the roadway. The subsequent inferno devoured the tractor-trailer and its cargo, but the driver luckily escaped any injury.
The motorcyclist, however, was not so fortunate and succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the accident.
At this time, law enforcement is considering alcohol, prescription drugs, and extreme winds to be likely factors for the cause of this gruesome wreckage.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the person who lost their life in this terrible accident.
Motorcycle Accidents in Emery County
Every year the state of Utah plays host to approximately 1,200 motorcycle accidents. The accidents result in roughly 1,015 people sustaining some degree of injury and 45 people dying from those injuries. Sadly, this death toll has risen continuously every single year over the past seven years for Utah drivers.
Sadly, the victims who endure motorcycle collisions normally suffer severe injuries because of the fact that they are so much more vulnerable to the force of the impact caused by other vehicles than your average passenger car or SUV on the roadway.
