Heber City, UT – Utah Woman Severely Injured in Home Explosion in TimberlakesUtah Legal News
Heber City, UT (February 16) — A home explosion and fire caused severe images to a woman Friday evening.
At 6:30 p.m. crews were called to the cabin. The cabin is located in a gated community on Lake Pines Drive in Timber Lakes. The location is east of Heber City.
The family was supposed to spend the weekend at the cabin, and had only just arrived when the woman smelled gas as she opened the garage door. She left her kids in the car and went out to investigate. Then the explosion occurred.
The severely injured 37-year-old woman was rescued from the house by a neighbor who had an adjacent cabin and happened to be a retired firefighter. Her identity has not been released.
The woman was transported to Heber Valley Hospital and then taken to the University Hospital burn unit. She is in serious but stable condition with burns and fractured bones.
The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. There was no saving the home so crews had to take a “defense attack” meaning the cabin was unsafe for firefighters to enter.
Firefighters were still fighting the fire to keep it from spreading as of 10 p.m. Gusty winds and snow caused fire trucks to be delayed getting to the scene because they had to have four-wheel drive firetrucks to get through the snow. This is a very rural area is rural and no other homes were in danger. At this time the cause of the explosion is not known and is still under investigation. The house was a complete loss.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman and her family during this difficult time and hope she is able to fully recover from her injuries.
When You Experience Burn Injuries
If you think you can smell gas, leave the house immediately. It can cause an explosion like the one written about above and cause severe – and painful – burns. Burns are one of the most excruciating and traumatic injuries one can experience and are usually permanent.
Treatments for burn victims like skin grafts, medication, and physical therapy can often take years and in the meantime the victim is in extreme pain. Seeing a therapist may help with the mental anguish of a burn victim but the physical aspect is extremely difficult.
We are unsure what cause this home to explode and detectives will look into the matter m ore closely to determine liability. If you sustain a burn injury due to someone else’s negligence it may be possible for you to be compensated for your injuries and losses including for pain and suffering.
