Salt Lake City, UT – Accident On I-15 Near 900 South Ends With Fire And Injuries

Salt Lake City, UT (February 22, 2019) – Around 1:30 a.m., Friday, Utah Highway Patrol responded to an accident around 900 South on I-15 involving a tanker truck carrying 7,000 gallons of gas and 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

According to Patrol Officers, the driver of a Honda Civic was traveling down the roadway drowsy, when they swerved across all lanes of traffic from the far right to the far left, then returned back to the right. Upon returning to the right side of the road, the vehicle hit a concrete barrier, which propelled the Honda into the path of oncoming traffic.

Unfortunately, the Honda struck the semi-truck and tanker, causes the vehicle to catch fire. The fire was so massive that it caused damage to the interstate and resulted in a five-hour shutdown as crews from multiple jurisdictions worked to clear the scene.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. We hope those involved in this accident are able to make a full recovery from their injuries.
