San Juan County, UT – 1 Dead and Another Severely Injured on US-191Utah Legal News
San Juan County, UT (July 4, 2019) – Early in the morning on Monday, July 1st, it was reported that a collision involving a pickup truck and a semi resulted in the death of one victim and the bodily disfigurement of another. The crash happened 10 miles north of Monticello on US-191 near milepost 82 at 12:21 p.m.
The two vehicles involved were a Ford F-350 and a Peterbilt semi-truck.
There were four occupants in the F-350 which was hauling a cargo box trailer. The semi was stopped on the road due to construction on the roadway.
Police reports indicate that the driver of the F-350 did not notice the stopped semi. When the driver attempted to stop, the brakes locked up, and the pickup ultimately struck the semi’s trailer from the passenger side. The pickup began to spin down the roadway before coming to a stop on the road’s shoulder.
The right-rear passenger died in the impact, and the front-right passenger had his arm severed.
The disfigured passenger was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
The two remaining occupants were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is currently being investigated.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased at this time.
Utah Speeding Car Crashes
40 percent of all fatal car crashes in Utah were the result of speeding on part of an involved driver.
Speeding can reduce the ability of a car to stop, making it likely that the driver will be unable to respond to hazards on the roadway. The injuries caused by these crashes are also more severe due to the greater speed of the vehicle.
