St. George, UT (May 27, 2019) – An accident occurred on Friday, May 24th when a plane that was flying over Wayne County suddenly crashed. The accident took place shortly after 11:00 in the morning.
Officers from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County EMS, and Wayne’s County Search and Rescue arrived at the scene of an accident that involved a single-engine plane crash near Miner’s Mountain Road near the Grover area.
According to preliminary statements, the responding officers and medical personnel found a wide field of debris and several small flames scattered throughout the area. Witness described hearing a very loud explosion and the aircraft suddenly dropping from view, followed by a lot of smoke. The crash site is in a remote area of the desert with a lot of rocky terrain.
According to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office, the collected remains appeared to be those of two people, presumably both from the downed aircraft. The unidentified remains have been transported to the medical examiner’s office for further investigation.
The cause of this crash is still under investigation by local law enforcement. The National Transportation Safety Board has also been contacted and will be conducting their own investigation into this matter.
