St. George, UT (February 23, 2019) – Two Santa Clara-Ivins police officers were injured in a pedestrian accident that took place on Red Mountain Boulevard, near South 200 East.
According to police, the accident took place on Tuesday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. in the 500 Block of Red Mountain Boulevard. Police were attempting to respond to a call of a man who had been allegedly using stolen gas cards on several vehicles.
When police officers arrived, they located the driver, who has since been identified as 36-year-old Crosby Camp. Camp was in a white Honda in the area of a gas station and refused to leave his vehicle when police officers approached.
The officers attempted to remove Camp from his vehicle, which is when he started speeding away from the scene and knocked the two officers to the ground. One suffered a shoulder injury, while the second suffered a leg injury.
Camp threw drug paraphernalia out of his window when police began chasing him down. He was arrested sometime after this and was believed to be under the influence at the time of the incident.
Police investigate the circumstances of the accident at this time.
We would like to extend our genuine and heartfelt sympathies to the officers injured in an accident while on duty, with the hopes that they will be able to receive full recoveries during this difficult time.
