West Valley City, UT – Friday Night Car Fire Leaves One Dead

West Valley City, UT (May 26, 2019) – A terrible car accident took place on Friday, May 24th, that resulted in the closing of all northbound lanes on I-215 West for the remainder of the night. The accident is reported to have occurred at about 10:40 at night.

Officers from the Utah Highway Patrol along with other emergency responders arrived on the scene of an accident that involved a silver Suzuki Forenza that was on fire being crashed into by a silver Honda Accord on Interstate 215 West near 300 South.

According to initial reports, the Suzuki, already showing signs of an engine fire, was stopped in the middle of the interstate possibly due to a mechanical malfunction. At this precise moment, the Honda attempted a lane change which caused it to connect with the Suzuki and sent both cars into the righthand side of the roadway. The Suzuki crossed into another lane and burst into flames leaving the driver, a 23-year-old male from West Valley City, with fatal injuries.

The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The investigation into the cause of the engine fire is still underway at this time.

We offer our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the gentleman who lost his life in this tragic accident. Our hearts go out to you during this very difficult time.
